Join us for a day of conservation in the Lim catchment as we continue to work together to remove this invasive plant species from our local area. No experience necessary - just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to pull out plants. The session runs from 10am until 2pm but please feel free to come for as long or as short a time to suit. Gloves are provided and collection bags etc. Please bring your own refreshments, there will be a picnic break, and we recommend sunscreen and insect repellant if it is hot. Wellingtons would be useful as some areas of the riverbanks are soft and muddy. Families welcome but 12 and over children only (must be accompanied).
We have successfully already removed thousands of plants in the upper valley and will be revisiting those sites again early in August to ensure we haven't missed anything. The area around Uplyme is much flatter and we wish to eradicate all the Himalayan Balsam along the river there and head downstream towards "Bumpy Field".
Please do support us if you have time and get to know new friends interested in protecting and enhancing our lovely river valley.
Look forward to seeing you
Event Timing: 26 July 1000-1400
Next dates: August: 8, 9, 29, 30
LOCATION: Meet in the field at the top end of Bumpy Field - Grid Ref GRR SY 334 933. Access for those WALKING is at the top end of Bumpy Field going North at the bottom of the slope nearest the river. If coming from the Uplyme direction follow the River Lim path south from Uplyme, cross Springhead Road into Mill Lane still following the River Lim path. When you get to the Old Mill (garden shielded with a nice wooden fence) cross the River Lim via the footbridge into Bumpy Field. Turn right and enter our work area via the old and dense hedgerow at the bottom of the slope. If you are coming by CAR there is limited parking. Please try to park at Bungalow Doron, first down Haye Lane. Can accommodate 3-4 cars if reversed down the drive, keep close to the wooden fence so horses are able to return to the field. Access will then be made to the fields via the stables.
