20mph - Consultation. Have Your Say.
Dorset Council has opened a public consultation on a 20mph speed limit for Lyme Regis. TLG has been supporting this as it’s safer for pedestrians, calms traffic and reduces noise and air pollution. DEADLINE: November 7.
The County Council is now consulting 11 communities on their 20mph proposals, of which Lyme Regis is the largest. Residents, workers, businesses and visitors can express their views here - Comment on moving Traffic Regulation Orders - Dorset Council. The survey is very quick to complete with a chance to add comments. This is our chance to express our views on this bold proposal for a safer, more accessible town centre and for streets where people’s health, safety and well-being are put before traffic priorities.
Research from areas with 20mph limits shows:
Huge reductions in collisions
Much less noise from traffic
Reduced greenhouse gas emissions
Lower air pollution
Lower car insurance premiums e.g. E-Sure lowered rates by 10% for postcodes with 20mph limits
Residential areas feel much calmer and safer
Public spaces feel safer, friendlier, quieter, cleaner and more liveable
