A JOINT FUNDRAISER TO BUILD GARDENS AND HAVENS FOR BEES.
TURN LYME GREEN joins WOODROFFE SCHOOL’S PARENTS, TEACHERS AND FRIENDS ASSOCIATION (PTFA) to host a fundraiser promoting gardens and bees. This collaboration brings together the PTFA’s Botanical Garden Project and TLG’s new Bee Friendly Lyme Regis initiative. Both tackle urgent environmental challenges including declining biodiversity in gardens and the rapid loss of habitat for bees and other pollinating insects.
Bee Friendly Lyme Regis will focus on transforming the town into a welcoming environment for pollinators. A key part of the project involves making and installing bee hotels throughout the area, providing much-needed nesting sites for solitary bees. These hotels can be placed in private gardens and community areas. TLG will work closely with the Council to build on the environmental work they have undertaken and work with residents, businesses and local organisations to share advice and ideas. From choosing pollinator-friendly plants to rethinking how green spaces are managed, the project encourages everyone to play a part in making Lyme Regis a truly bee-friendly town.
Alongside this town-wide initiative, The Woodroffe School’s Botanical Garden Project is transforming outside spaces around the school grounds into a series of botanical garden areas. These new green areas will significantly improve biodiversity, positively impact on the mental and physical health of students and staff, enhance learning and educational opportunities and engage the wider public through open and grounds days. Students will have a hands-on approach with nature and understand the importance of protecting the environment. Further details of the project and fundraising are at https://woodroffeschool.org/botanical-garden-project/
To raise awareness and funds, TLG and the PTFA invite the community to the Great Green Pub Quiz. ANNE SWITHINBANK, well-known as a panelist on BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time will join as quiz master. It promises to be a fun, friendly evening for all while supporting local environmental projects.
EVERYONE is welcome to the quiz —whether you’re a quiz enthusiast or simply passionate about protecting nature.
