Turn Lyme Green packed autumn schedule

Turn Lyme Green supporters enjoyed two magical evenings on Trinity Hill with Graham Jones listening out for nighjars. And there’s plenty more to look forward to: greener open homes; autumn programme of talks; a walk along the River Lim to meet the monitors, litter picking. All this and the recycle sewing group is meeting weekly and supplying boomerang bags to local businesses, taking plastic out of the waste system. We hope to see you at a TLG event soon.

GREENER OPEN HOMES THIS SEPTEMBER

Get inspiration from visting homes with heat pumps, solar, batteries, wildlife gardening, rainwater harvesting and enthusiastic residents!

Residents across Dorset are inviting in visitors at the end of September to share ideas and examples for greener living. Carefully selected homes in and around Lyme and Charmouth will be on show across the weekend of September 20th and 21st. Property owners will be on hand to discuss the pros and cons of going all electric and what you can do to help nature in your own patch. Booking is essential for most of the properties plus a few are available at other times to visit by appointment. You will be really inspired – as one resident said: “We are delighted with the results despite the cost, disruption and hard work”. Not all the homes are on the website yet so keep an eye out. Organised by Dorset Climate Action Network and supported by TLG.

LYME REGIS BEACH CLEANS

The next litter pick is on Sunday 10th August, 11am - 1pm. We can provide litter pickers, gloves and bags/buckets but if you can bring your own, all the better. We dispose of the rubbish.

WOODROFFE ON THE VEG

Stunning, healthy-looking kale plants! Thanks to Woodroffe School for your update and photos from your gardening club. Our TLG Woodroffe School seed donation for 2025 from our March Seed Saturday event has been put to excellent use. TLG admires the amazing work the club is doing – helping so many pupils to appreciate more of the UK’s food story. Gardening club pupils are also growing tomatoes chard, rocket, courgette, cucumber, squash, and even MELONS. Congratulations to Woodroffe School! 💚 💚 💚

TACKLING THE ALIENS

Seeds and Diversity
Ellen Rignell from Winnow Farm grows organic seed to protect and grow the biodiversity that we have left today. She tells us, ‘local seeds are genetically primed to grow in your local climate’. She will demonstrate how easy it is to save your own tomato seeds.

UPCYCLING AND REPAIR

A short film ‘ Givery Takery’ followed by discussion with the film maker, Lisa Clifford, about her querky upcycling project in Hastings, together with leaders of two local recycling projects - Lorraine Vandersyde, from Lyme Repair Cafe, and Liz Davis, coordinator of TLG’s Boomerang Bags. FREE but booking required here. Refreshments available.

Sunday 28th September - World Rivers Day 11am
Bookings will open soon for a walk along the River Lim to meet the monitors and some of the wildlife. Meet at Goslings Bridge at the bottom of Hill Road/junction with Mill Green.

Tuesday 18th November - The Dorset Bee. 7pm. Driftwood Cafe, Baptist Church, Lyme Regis. FREE. Refreshments available.
Helen Bolter-Griffith will talk about solitary bees, The Bee Hotel project and flowers for bees.

Appeal for Social Media Help

We still need help to keep our social media (Facebook and Instagram) up to date with lively and upbeat posts. How much time is needed? Not much.. about an hour a week. SCYTHING VOLUNTEERS WANTED

The Spiral Centre in Axmouth have a Community Woodland Orchard, accessible by Higher Lane, Axmouth. They are searching for anyone who's interested to learn scything, or have a scythe and skills and fancies joining their Work Party Days. Volunteers meet every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month (with some variations so best to check the calendar) 10am - 12pm with a free hearty lunch afterwards, usually with produce from the forest garden.
