Our teams have been dusting off their festive gear and have been posing for photos just for you. If you’d like to join any of these teams, please get in touch with the organisers (contacts below). It’s fun, it’s free and all are welcome.

FESTIVE CHEER WITH THE RECYCLE SEWING GROUP

The recycle sewing group meets nearly every Wednesday afternoon, making bags and draught excluders. Sewing machines provided! If you’re interested in joining these fun sessions, please contact organiser Liz Davis: lizdavis01@gmail.com

SEED SATURDAY CELEBRATIONS

Suzy Gallina reports, “We packaged over 200 packets of seed at both of our recent packing sessions – an amazing achievement by our volunteers. All of our seed is fresh and ready to give out at our seed swap for the 2026 season. Our next packing session is Tuesday 13 January 2pm to 4pm, email us for details.

GREETINGS FROM THE LITTER PICKERS

In late November, 22 volunteers picked up 34 kilos of rubbish, mainly small items like fishing rope and cigarette butts. The first litter pick of 2026 is on Saturday January 3 from 10am-12. Meet at the RNLI shop at the Cobb. If possible bring your own bucket. We can provide gloves and pickers. Thanks to Baboo for the offer of hot drinks/ice cream to all litter pickers afterwards.

Sam Bowler, from Lyme Bay Rib Charter (watched by Councillor Belinda Bawden), has been monitoring microplastics on the beach as part of research for Portsmouth University and Just One Ocean. Anyone who would like to get involved please email us to find out how you can help. Read more on the Big Microplastic Survey website.

RIVER LIM ACTION CELEBRATES IN STYLE

The River Lim Action monitoring team celebrated with health and safety training, new hi viz and cake. Their annual monitoring review comes out shortly. Sign up to the newsletter dedicated to the effort to clean up our beautiful river.

THE DORSET BEE
GUIDE on PLANTING

Helen Bolter Griffin and Gareth Flux gave an inspiring talk in November all about bees. Here’s a link to the promised guide on planting for bees - year round. There is a month by month calendar to follow and loads of ideas for planting.. flowers.. small trees and shrubs, large trees and even funghi.
We were especially inspired by Bee Friendly Bridport . With Dorset Bee’s help, Bridport has become a bee-friendly dedicated community group which has set up a trail of 12 bee hotels. Could this happen in Lyme Regis? If anyone wants to help get the project off the ground, please contact us.

Saturday February 28, screening of 'Ocean with David Attenborough' followed by an exclusive talk and Q&A with one of the film's directors, Keith Scholey. More information and bookings.

Friday March 6, screening of 'Jo in the Water' followed by Q&A and talk with Jo, the documentary's director, Pip Piper, and Surfers Against Sewage CEO, Giles Bristow. This tells the story of passionate sea swimmer turned reluctant activist, Exmouth-based Jo Bateman, as she takes on South West Water in a David-and-Goliath battle to protect our waters from devastating sewage pollution.
