Please come along to our annual gathering - a chance to chat, meet other supporters and catch up on all of our activities and campaigns - including River Lim Action, our Seed Swap, the Recycle Sewing Group’s boomerang bags, litter picks and talks. We hope to see you there!

We will start festivities at 7pm. TLG will provide drinks and, if you are able, we will welcome sharing plates of nibbles - sweet or savoury; your choice.

‘QUARRIES TO NATURE RESERVES’ - talk

There are 2000 active and worked-out quarries across the UK, representing a huge opportunity to create specialist habitats where native flora and fauna can thrive.

Our speaker, Andy Littler, is a geologist, chartered engineer and quarry manager with a passion for natural history. He has spent 40 years pioneering the restoration of quarries to biodiverse habitats. He wrote the first Quarry Biodiversity Action Plans in the UK and runs courses for quarry professionals on the subject. Andy lives in Charmouth and is currently working on quarry restoration projects in Dorset along Puddletown Rd, Wareham and at Chard.

LITTER PICK - SUNDAY FEBRUARY 16

The Lyme Litterpickers, part of Turn Lyme Green, remain hard at work tackling rubbish and clearing up plastic pollution. The next litterpick is on Sunday Feburary 16th starting at 1030 and finishing by 1230. Meet at the RNLI shop at the Cobb. Bring a bucket if you can. Gloves and litter pickers provided.

How is your supermarket doing on pesticide reduction?

The quick answer is “not enough”. Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) continue to be used within the global supply chains of all of the UK’s largest ten supermarkets, including carcinogens and hormone disruptors, bee-toxins and water contaminants. In 2024 Pesticide Action Network once again surveyed and ranked the UK’s top ten supermarkets on their efforts to tackle pesticides. Some supermarkets are doing much better than others but they could all be doing more.

DIARY DATE BIG PADDLE OUT 2025

The date for the 2025 Big Paddle Out - which turns the spotlight onto sewage pollution - is May 17th. It was great fun last year and really well supported in Lyme Regis by about 200 people, some wearing fabulous fancy dress outfits. The weather stayed fair until after the Paddle Out when the heavens opened!

Come along and make the Lyme Regis event even bigger than last year.

RIVER LIM ACTION POLLUTION REPORT

The River Lim Action group has been monitoring the River Lim’s health for two full years and has published a report on its findings. The report contains suggested solutions and conclusions based on evidence collected about sources of pollution in the river. 

It brings together the findings of the River Lim Action group's own monitoring, the statutory monitoring carried out during the bathing season by the Environment Agency of the two bathing beaches (Church Cliff and Front Beach) and other monitoring, where information has been provided, carried out by the Environment Agency (EA) in the river and South West Water (SWW).

CLIMATE TRAINING ON OFFER

Dorset Climate Action Network’s Carbon Literacy training for town and parish councils and community groups is on offer for only £40 (plus booking fee), including the accreditation fee. 

Learn the latest climate science and impacts; the global, national and local policies and action plans; and discuss what we can do collectively to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for known climate impacts in Dorset. 

Gain Carbon Literacy certification and you could even become a trainer yourself. Head to DCAN's website for further details.

Repair Cafe volunteers needed and event

The new Lyme Regis repair cafe should be up and running in the new year at the Boat Building Academy. But they need volunteers. If you can repair things (eg electrical appliances, computers, toys, clothes etc) they would love to hear from you. They are also looking for people to help organise. The Repair Cafe is running an open event on Saturday January 18th, 2-4pm at the Powerboat Club. Come along and find out more about it. All welcome.
