Turn Lyme Green is springing into action for a packed season of events and activities. You can enjoy inspiring talks, help our sewing team, clean plastic off our beaches, pull out Himalayan Balsam, support the Big Paddle out…. There’s a lot going on! And a big thank you for supporting our events so far this year - we’ve had amazing turnouts for Seed Saturday and the River Lim awareness evening.

Claire Anholt Duthuit, a local resident, works with the UN Climate Change High-Level Champions to accelerate climate action worldwide. Fresh from COP29 in Azerbaijan and heading to COP30 in the Brazilian Amazon later this year, Claire will share why — from Devon and Dorset to Dhaka — bold local leadership is essential to tackling climate change. With visuals from creative campaigns around the world and a hands-on interactive exercise, the session will explore how local leadership is driving global change — and why Lyme’s connection to climate diplomacy is closer than you might think. Free. Refreshments available.

New Homes for Boomerang Bags

We are very pleased that two new outlets now have our lovely Boomerang Bags.

The Alexandra Hotel and H. Concept (at Miller’s Farm Shop) have joined the many shops and premises that are part of the scheme.

Kathryn Haskins, owner/manager of the Alexandra Hotel (on the left) thanked Liz Davis: “It’s a wonderful idea and I’m sure the guests will love being able to borrow them when they stay.”

Hilary Smith at H.Concept at Millers Farm Shop donated the fabric from which her bags were made. She says, “It’s such a good idea and I’m looking forward to giving the bags to customers who often shop here”.

GREAT DORSET BEACH CLEAN
SATURDAY APRIL 5th

The next litter pick is on Saturday April 5 starting at 11am and finishing by 1pm. Meet at the RNLI shop at the Cobb. Bring a bucket if you can. Gloves and litter pickers provided. Free hot drink or ice cream from Baboo for all participants. Thank you to them! This is part of the Great Dorset Beach Clean. If you can’t make this event there are others across Dorset. OPPORTUNITIES TO JOIN IN

Turn Lyme Green at Fetes
The annual round of summer fetes gives us a chance to promote our campaigns and activties. Our gazebo and displays are ready but we always welcome volunteers to help on a rota during the afternoons. This year we are at the May Fete at Anning Road on Sunday 11th May, the Uplyme Village Fete on Saturday 7th June and at the Uplyme and Lyme Regis Horticultural Show, Saturday 2nd August.
Please get in touch if you can volunteer a few hours to help out.

Himalayan Balsam Pulling
Enjoy a couple of hours removing this invasive species from the River Lim catchment starting in late May. To add your name to our volunteer list email riverlimaction@gmail.com

Paddle Out
200 people joined in the Lyme Big Paddle Out last May and we’re hoping for an even bigger turn out on Saturday May 17th. Time TBC. Organised by Surfers Against Sewage. More information to follow.

Appeal for Social Media Help

Can you help keep our social media up to date with lively and upbeat posts? Facebook and if possible Instagram. How much time is needed? About an hour a week. Ideal for someone wanting to promote local and national environmental issues and activities with a friendly group.

EVENT ROUND UP

SEED SATURDAY SUCCESS!

This year we invited Winnow Farm Seeds, CB Plants and Herbs, The Dorset Bee and Alan Dodkins and our TLG secateur sharpener to join us - thanks go to everyone involved. TLG volunteers provided home-baked cakes and everyone enjoyed gathering packets of seeds to grow, sharing gardening tips and drinking tea! We’re also very pleased to say that our donations covered our costs and we’ll be continuing next year. Thank you!

It might feel quite small, just saving beans and growing your own food, but actually we think it's really fundamental. By doing something infinitesimally small like this, you are working towards something that makes you feel more hopeful. It's a positive step.

RIVER LIM ACTION EVENING

All local residents in the DT7 postcode were sent an invitation to an evening of information and discussion about issues affecting water quality in the River Lim. About 100 attended and hear talks by the River Lim Action group, the East Devon National Landscape and Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group. A follow up event for farmers and landowners in the catchment was also well attended. The River Lim Action group, which is part of TLG, will now plan next steps. Thanks to the Farming in Protected Landscapes programme and the Baptist Church for all the help with the event.

OTHER THINGS YOU CAN DO

LYME REGIS REPAIR CAFE

The first Repair Cafe was a huge success. Over 40 people attended enjoying the buzz and great cakes and coffees. Among the many items given new life were: toasters; coffee machines; a pasteuriser; chairs; clocks; a huge breadboard; jewellery; lamps; trousers; zips and a torn woollen poncho!
Next is Saturday 19th April, 10am-1pm at the Boat Building Academy.

RECYCLE YOUR PILL PACKETS

You can now recycle your empty blister packs in Boots. They make a huge contribution to plastic waste so it’s good that Boots in Bridport is now offering this opportunity. You can register to claim points on your Boots card or just drop them into the box!

Please support Dorset Climate Action Network

Dorset CAN provides resources to community groups - sharing great ideas to reduce carbon emissions and help nature recovery. From the Great Big Dorset Hedge to solar roofs and greener open homes, TLG has benefited. Now Dorset CAN has won a place in the Big Give Green Match Fund week starting on April 22nd which means any donations that week will be doubled. Please put it in your diary and look out for reminders. The charity can also claim Gift Aid on eligible donations.
